There are 5 gardens to stroll through and photograph. The Courtyard Garden contains clay-wall and shingle-roof shelters called machiai. Dry River Garden is one of Japan's most celebrated gardening styles. The Stone and Gravel Garden is sculptured simplicity and often abstract based in Zen Buddhism. There is a Zen Contemplation Garden which is representative of Zen gardens with the focus on meditation. Water is essential in Japanese Gardens. The Strolling Pond Garden reflects this element. The fifth is the Modern and Sculpture Garden. This combines traditional principles with a distinctive contemporary approach. This is a self-directed tour. The gardens represent backyard gardens people would have had several centuries ago in Kyoto. In addition to the gardens, a museum and an art gallery is included with the admission price.
