FEBRUARY 2020 NEWSLETTER

Letter from the President

Be active at the Camera Club this February and March! We have lots of Field Trips in great weather, the Film Fest on February 10, a luncheon to honor our volunteers, and the Club Social March 19. In addition, there are Scavenger Hunts and Showtime and Travelogue, the 10-week class, and Special Interest Groups and classes.

Help keep our Club as vibrant as it is now! Leadership positions are opening up and you could become part of the group that makes things happen here! Our web site needs reworking; if web design is your forte, please email me regarding your interest. Explore what is involved in the positions of President, Speaker Series Coordinator, GVR Liaison, Senior Olympics Photo Manager, and Director (Board Member) by talking with me or any of our Board. These positions and others will each open within a few months to a year. Guidance from the previous position-holder is available for each.

Next month we will take nominations for the Board. Our Board is 12 members, with two-year terms. Each year six positions are open. We expect four incumbents to be running and will be looking for two new Board members. Discuss with any present Board member what it’s like to be on the Board. I know you’ll hear it’s a fun endeavor; your efforts will benefit our 800 some members and you’ll have fun and make friends doing it!

Green Valley Camera Club is a great resource for the community providing experiences such as field trips and social events, equipment, assistance and training to develop skills in photography and fostering an appreciation and understanding of photography and digital imaging as art and a medium of communication. Simply put, it’s a fun place to spend your time learning, teaching, and making friends. Come join us by filling a bigger role in GVR Camera Club.

Happy trails, Holly Chorba GVRCC President

Photo/Graphy = Writing with Light

Photography quite literally means “Writing with Light.”  This has been going on for centuries. Modern photographers and story-tellers can take cues from our artistic forefathers who have been representing light on canvas and cave walls since the Paleolithic times. Join David King to discuss a little about what we—as photographic story-tellers—can learn from art history, what rules they taught us, and why. From there we can discuss the creative evolution of where and how we “Write with Light.” To quote classic rocker, Rod Stewart, “Every picture tells a story, don’t it,” (1971)

To attend this event, you must be a member of GVR.

ODDS AND ENDS

Tucson Windows and Doors Field Trip Jan 28

If you haven't been on a Camera Club Field Trip, you should try one. What started as a typical Field Trip to the Barrio of Tucson blossomed into a far more eductional trip. We met a gentleman who was part of local history. As we stoppped by a mural, he came to chat. He opened the small church next to the mural and described his picture in the mural as well as his grandparents.

We also stopped to look at an old store, when the owner appeared, chatted with us, and then unlocked and invited us into the store. History again where none was expected. You never know what you may find.

Items submitted to the Newsletter can be in a Word document (title.docx) or in RTF (Rich Text Format), PDF documents do not translate into Wild Apricot well.
