APRIL 2020 CAMERA CLUB NEWSLETTER

April 2020

Letter from the President

Greetings GVR Camera Club Members! I hope that you are healthy and taking warranted precautions necessary to stay healthy. I miss being able to get together with all of you at Showtimes, Travelogues, our Club Social, and especially stopping in at the Club.   How long it will be before we get back to normal will be determined by GVR and the bigger picture. In the meantime please enjoy your cache of photos and videos, on-line learning activities, and social networking through cyberspace. Enjoy phone calls of familiar voices for those you miss and hesitate to get together with in person.

Here is how we plan to accomplish our Annual Members’ Meeting:

1. Phil Rock will send an e-mail to each member on April 14th asking if there are any nominations for the Board. We have 6 seats available and 6 very enthused and capable people already running for those seats, so no further nominations are needed. (See their information below.)

2. Phil will send an e-mail to each member to vote on the slate of candidates. (If we have exactly 6 candidates, we will ask the Board for votes to have the secretary cast one ballot for the slate.)  Then, as usual, Board members will select Officers from the newly elected Board. This year the Board will meet in cyberspace, if all GVR facilities are still closed.

Here is a YouTube video that Chief Wunder of the GV Fire District has released through the daily COVID -19 updates.

Please view this YouTube link for some safety tips and also some brilliant acting. Who knew we had such talent among the ranks?  “We are in this together.” Stay safe, stay healthy and check on one another! The Fire District is alive and well and misses your smiling faces around the stations.” Besides that, it is fun to view!

My husband, Randy, and I are fulltime residents of Green Valley and we reside in Canoa Northwest.  We moved here from Lincoln, Nebraska in February 2018 to be snowbirds and within the year decided to make Green Valley home permanently.

I have a degree in Business Education from the University of Maryland and worked on Capitol Hill until I married Randy and moved to Texas.  While in Texas we started our family but returned to the Washington, DC area to raise our family.  We have two sons and one grandson.

Since moving to Green Valley, I have enjoyed many of the activities that Green Valley has to offer.  I love the Camera Club, but I also participate in Pickleball, Line Dance and I am taking a class in clay.  I also enjoy playing Mahjongg, bridge and many other card games.

Additional nominations from Club members are welcome and may be made in response to an upcomming April 14 e-mail requesting any additional nominations. If there are more nominations, an e-mail will be sent to each member for their vote on the slate of candidates. If there are no more nominations, the Board will vote to elect the slate of 6 listed above.

Dear GVR Camera Club,

As president of The Springs HOA, there are two issues I would like to bring to your attention. But first, I want to emphasize that our community values your presence here in our HOA and we appreciate all of your work to keep great opportunities available for all GVR members.

The first concern is about speeding. Please respect our speed limit of 20 mph throughout The Springs community. Your building is near the front gate where it is very important to keep your speed at 20 mph due to high traffic volume related to GVR members entering and leaving on our private roads. I have received multiple complaints about the speed of vehicles particularly when entering The Springs. The speed limit is posted clearly at two points at or near the gatehouse entry. I have included four notices for posting in your club’s area which politely remind folks to slow down.

The second concern is about parking. There are three large parking areas that surround the GVR facilities, and our community prefers that GVR members use them rather than parking on our streets. Long term parking on the streets reduces visibility and creates congestion for our residents. Additionally, parking up onto the sidewalks and curbing causes cracks and fracturing which The Springs pays for since we have private, not public, streets and sidewalks. Please do your best to use the lots and not park on the streets. The above mentioned notice includes a request to use the lots whenever there is room available in them.

Residents of The Springs appreciate your help and that of the other local GVR clubs who have also been contacted. (The Springs community has also been reminded of the need to slow down.) We look forward to increased safety in our community.

Thank you so much for listening to our concerns.

Kindest regards,

Rebecca L Keenan

President of The Springs at Santa Rita HOA

Please respect our speed limit of 20 mph.

Please park in the lots when there is room.

Thank you so much!

Monitor Notes

Help us provide all the benifits the Club offers to its members by volenteering as a monitor. As you take advantage of the Club's activities and its extensive digital processing equipment, consider sharing the effort in providing these services by volunteering as a monitor.

Monitors typically check in club members, answer the phone, and welcome those seeking information about the Club. You are not expected to know how to use the equipment. Training takes about an hour.

Newsletter Changes Hands

From Bob Allen:                                                                                                                      I am stepping down as Camera Club Newsletter Editor after two years of publishing the newsletter. It is time for me to turn the electronic press over to a new editor. Neil Wicai has stepped in to replace me and the newsletter will be in good hands.

Thank you, Bob, for your kind words, for your service and commitment for the past two years and for your guidance in getting me up to speed in assembeling the Newsletter.

I joined the Camera Club just about two ago after my wife, Ellen, and I moved to Green Valley from Taos, New Mexico. Born and raised in a suburb east of Cleveland, Ohio, I got my BSEE degree from Ohio University in 1965, and have spent most of my carreer in technical sales and marketing. Ellen and I enjoy the arts, travel to family, socializing with our new found friends and neighbors, and all the activities that GVR has to offer. I spend my free time reading a good book, learning how to be a better photographer and spending far too much time doing genealogy.

I look forward to keeping Camera Club members up to date with acurate and timely club information and appreciate the opportunity to be your editor.
