Bird/Nature Photography:  El Rio Preservation (Marana)

NOTE: This trip has been changed to Canoa Ranch due to heavy construction at El Rio.

Cost: $12

El Rio Preserve is a birding and nature hotspot along the northern-most part of the Pima County Multi-use Loop path that connects more than 100 miles.  Some of the many shore and riparian birds that you might see at El Rio Preserve include: Belted Kingfisher, Pied-billed Grebe, White-faced Ibis, Great Blue Heron, Black-necked Stilt, several duck species, and more.  Even sandhill cranes stop by in the late fall, presumably on their way to the Wilcox Playa.

The trip will be led by bird and nature expert, Sandy McMahan, who is a long-time teacher and trip leader. Whether you're an expert birder/photographer or a beginner, you will enjoy Sandy's narratives. If you have binoculars, you may want to bring them along. A small notebook and pen or pencil would be useful to record your sightings.

Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. A hat and water are suggested.  Bring your lunch so you can spend as much time as you want observing birds and activities that weren't visible when the reeds were very high.

Meet at the Camera Club at 8 AM in the upper parking lot for carpooling.  If you don't feel comfortable carpooling, you can drive yourself.  We will leave for El Rio at 8:15 AM.  Please wear your GVR Camera Club badge if you have one.

GVR is requiring that every person participating in the Club's field trips sign a waiver absolving GVR of any liability.  You will be required to sign the waiver at the Camera Club before the trip departs.
