Hotel Congress/Transportation Museum

Trip Cost $14

Meet at the Camera Club at 9:45 AM for carpooling, maps and instructions. Depart at 10:00 AM.

Parking is recommended in Depot Plaza Garage at rate of $1.00 per hour.  Carpoolers please chip in for parking and gas.

We will travel to Hotel Congress in downtown Tucson. We will meet our host Jocelyn in the lobby at 11 am for a 45 minute tour of this historic hotel.  We will see rooms/amenities, Copper Hall and learn the history of the hotel. The Hotel is known for being the site of the capture of gangster and bank robber John Dillinger in 1934.  The Hotel does not usually conduct tours on Friday , so they are doing us a favor.  Coffee at Maynards.

After this tour we will walk to lunch at the Hub Restaurant and Ice Creamery.  Lunch will be at your own expense. After lunch we will walk to the next tour. Please wear comfortable shoes for walking and your GVR Camera Club badge if you have one.

At 1:00 pm we will meet our hosts Rose and Paul at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum for a 45 minute tour.  We will be given information about the museum and a viewing of Locomotive #1673 which starred in “Oklahoma”. There is no way to understand the history of Tucson until you witness the incredible impact the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad had on, what was then (1880), a tiny (mostly) Mexican village.

Michele Hamel will be our Guide. For additional information contact her at mhamel@comcast.net or by phone  815-988-6716.

Last date to cancel and get a refund is January 17.
