Pima Air and Space Museum

Trip Cost $14.50

Take a self guided tour of one of the largest non-government Air and Space Museums in the world. You’ll be fascinated by over 300 historical aircraft and spacecraft from the United States and throughout the world. The walking tour will take you thru four hangers with aircraft on the ground as well as suspended from the ceiling. These hangars contain aircraft from World War I, Pacific and European Theatre, Vietnam and Korea. You’ll be able to photograph 150 planes indoors. Hint: bring a wide-angle lens, these aircraft are huge.

On this particular field trip, we will have the opportunity to tour the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital. It was the 2nd DC-10 built in 1991 and donated to the Pima Air & Space Museum in 2019. The Flying Eye Hospital is a state-of-the-art teaching facility complete with operating room, classroom and recovery room. Orbis’s mission is to mentor, train and inspire local teams so they are capable of saving sight in their own country. Orbis volunteer medical teams serve South America, Africa and Asia.

After touring the hangars you may want to wander the 80+ acres to view and photograph  U. S. Air Force Fighters, Commercial and Civil Aircraft, U. S. Navy Fighters, Presidential and VIP Aircraft, Early U. S. and Foreign Fighters, Trainers, Helicopters, Bombers, Transport and Utility Aircraft, NASA Aircraft, Tankers, Electronic Aircraft and many more. Plus, you’ll see historic military jeeps, trucks and motorcycles on display beneath the wings of historic aircraft.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS IS A WALKING INTENSIVE TOUR SO WEAR COMFORTABLE WALKING SHOES. If you don’t feel like walking the grounds after the hangers, you have the option of taking a one-hour tram tour narrated by experienced docents who share their personal stories of service with many of the aircraft on display. The Tram Tour does not stop for photos. Tram tours can be booked while you are there at a cost of $6.00 per person.

You can also visit the Space Gallery and will be emotionally touched and moved by these exhibits honoring our bravest military personnel in the 390th Museum, the Arizona Aviation Hall of Fame. There is no extra cost for these exhibits.

You will be so close to Davis Monthan Air Base that you may have an opportunity to photograph the Warthogs as they take off and land.

You may bring your own water, but no outside food or beverages are allowed. You can have lunch on your own at the Flight Grill and purchase souvenirs at the Museum Store.

You can stay until closing at 5 pm.
