- Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory (SABO) holds its hummingbird banding sessions at the San Pedro House (SPH) during spring, summer and fall from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. See the SABO website for details.

November 17. FSPR and BLM held a 30th Anniversary Celebration commemorating the creation of the SPRNCA in 1988.
August 1-4, 2018. Southwest Wings Festival – The Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival featured field trips, free lectures, and other events.
May 2-5, 2018. Southwest Wings Spring Fling– The Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival features field trips to a variety of destinations in southern Arizona.
SABO (Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory) offered regular afternoon hummingbird banding at San Pedro House and Casa de San Pedro last year. Check the SABO website for the upcoming event schedule and further information.
Saturday, September 30, 2017. Seek the San Pedro National Public Lands Day, was held at San Pedro House.
The BLM hosted a public meeting from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on May 19th, 2015 at their Sierra Vista office, 4070 S Avenida Saracino, Hereford AZ. The public was invited to hear and comment on the four alternatives that have been identified for consideration in the updated San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area (SPRNCA) Resource Management Plan (RMP) that is under development. For more information, contact the BLM Public Affairs Specialist, Adam Milnor, at (520) 258-7223.
The Friends of the San Pedro River were urged to attend to voice support for continued preservation of our precious riparian area with its rich wildlife habitat and unique cultural resources.
Hummingbird Banding
Up to 10 species of hummingbirds use the green corridor of the San Pedro River as a freeway between their tropical winter retreats and their northern nesting grounds.
The public is invited to get a close-up look at these tiny travelers, as staff and volunteers from the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory capture, band, weigh, measure, and release them as part of long-term studies of the bird life of this vital migration route.
At San Pedro House, observe hummingbird banding from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.
Hello, I am writing on behalf of the San Pedro River Arts Council. Last Spring, Catie Fenn, who works for the BLM, contacted us to enquire if we might be interested in participating in this year’s Fairbank Day in October.
